Without doubt, this is one of my favorite shallow reef fish. When I first caught sight of this strange looking animal I was captivated by it. I was even more astonished when I saw a baby one, as in its tiny juvenile stage it has long 'plumage' that flutters behind. - Webmaster |
Identifying marks: | Elongated rear dorsal and tail fins; black with white spots. |
Description: | The front dorsal fin is unusually long; there are black and white bars on the head; multiple black and white stripes on the body. |
Where to see it: | These pretty fish can be found though out the Caribbean, South Florida and the Bahamas. (if you are lucky, it is a very timid fish). |
Depth: | 3-30 metres (approximately). |
Size: | 15cm - 23cm (maximum 28cm). |
